When
our storytellers visit classrooms
and ask, "How many of you read stories with
your parents at home?" they
are invariably astonished by the response.
Perhaps three out of thirty children
raise their hands. We grew up being read
to, and that warm experience of reading
aloud together provided the early stimulus
for many of us to develop a love of reading.
Today's
families have many challenges: single parent
households; both parents working full-time;
parents working more than one job - with
the result that few parents are able to
find the time to read to their children.
Our on-line storytelling with Tom Chapin's
narration is intended as 'lapware' - children
can curl up with their exhausted parents
at the end of a long day, and our warm narrator,
Tom Chapin, will read them a story, with
the artwork animated for a computer format,
but easy to download quickly.
